York Region Workforce Planning Board hosting a Building and Construction Trades Showcase

Kenora - Rainy River    

Kenora-Rainy River District Project Overview Your school will be provided with a package that will include: • Pre-ordered number of decals depending on number of employers. The decal will be designed to be affixed to their business window to identify businesses that partner with their local schools. • A letter that will accompany the decals when presented to the employers. The letter to the employer will explain how the decals can be posted in window and how this is a new designated week by the Ministry, supporting school to work initiatives.  • Certificate for “Supportive Communities”.

Guelph    

We have 5 plant tours pending and we are waiting to hear confirmation from the businesses on the best day and timeHealth & Wellness Career Awareness -- We are planning to hold a session for SHSM Health & Wellness students at one of the high schools in Rural Wellington..  We will arrange 4 career speakers who will speak about the opportunities available in the Healthcare field.

  • SHSM Job Shadow -- we have met with the SHSM lead at one school in Guelph who is interested in having us plan a job shadow or 'reach ahead' opportunity for students in one of their SHSM programs.  A follow up meeting with the sector lead is scheduled for next week.
  • Destinations - This is a Career Exploration opportunity for Grade 8 students that is offered throughout the Fall.  We hope to have at least one class holding this session during Experiential Learning Week

North Bay    

Monday to Friday we will be running a radio and newspaper campaign for experiential learning week in three of our communities as well as hosting various events.  We will also have a large banner being held in our downtown area.

Four County LMB    

Please note that articles will be appearing in the Post, and other newspapers. One article will be on a reporter who used to be a co-op student and then became employed by her co-op employer. Another business owner will talk about her co-op placement,and then after College, she purchased the business from her co-op employer. There are also other stories planned.

Renfrew County    

November is essentially our big event month for Passport to Prosperity in Renfrew County.  Thus, we have opted to keep our original events for the month, which have been in the planning stages for months.   November 3rd, is our official P2P campaign launch and "Take our Kids to Work Day" breakfast for employers, students and educators.  This event will also feature two guest speakers - Pembroke Regional Hospital (2010 Employer Champion) and MyFm radio.  Both will speak of the benefits of participating in Expereintial Learning, as well as put out a call to the employers present and through the media to consider becoming part of this initiative.  ...

Cornwall    

We will also be placing advertisements in several local newspapers using the ad developed by Hill & Knowlton as well as issuing a press release to each media outlet.  I have been delivering copies of the poster just recently sent out to all schools and several employers in the region. I will also be speakig to some Careers classes in my area.  Bob Viola
