Experiential Learning Week Events - November 23rd

 

Elgin, Middlesex, and Oxford counties and the City of London   

Oxford Invitational Youth Robotics Challenge, where approximately 14 teams of students will present their projects. Teams work with a mentor from industry on their projects.  This event will be held in conjunction with the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce Business after 5, bringing business and students together.   This event will be held at Goff Hall in Woodstock Ontario. Elgin, Middlesex, and Oxford counties and the City of London, the event takes place in Woodstock but all participants are from the above area. Please note we have 20 teams with 100 participants, 20 mentors from the industry.

Thunder Bay   

Mission Employability V – Skilled Trades Forum bringing parents, students, teachers and employers to discuss the employment / training needs in the sector. For more info - http://goo.gl/bjFL

Kingston   

A Co-op luncheon with the SHSM Teachers, some board members, myself, AND SHSM employer’s (at least one from each sector). During the luncheon a brief co-op meeting will take place, as well as honouring the outstanding work of employers who are present, and a draw for the dream job lottery (see below).  The luncheon will be catered by the Cook’s Intern Program through a local high school.

North Bay   

"Experiential Learning in your Community"     SHSM teachers, co-op and guidance teachers are invited to join P2P at a breakfast to discuss experiential learning opportunities in their community as well as employer recruitment.

Windsor

Connections Breakfast in Ottawa .  We are really exciting about Geoff Green, recently on Canada AM (featured at GeoffGreen.ca) re:  Students on Ice, his program involving experiential learning for students, as well as Marcellus Mindel from IBM who has been ver supportive of our High school SHSM program

Four County LMB   

Georgian Bay SS – presentation on the new SHSM program in Arts & Culture  OSCVI students – job shadowing at Hospital and in the Health Care CommunityWest Hill SS – There will be an Open House for the three new tech areas, including Hairdressing (SHSM), Drafting and Machine Shop. The equipment donation from Dave Kuhl, past student and current employer for experiential learning will be a feature.Note: The Skills Opportunity Showcase Trailer will host careerinformation to reflect the three areas of the Open House.
