Experiential Learning Week Events - November 25th

Elgin, Middlesex, and Oxford counties and the City of London   

On November 25th  The Specialist High Skills Major Construction Course from A.B. Lucas Secondary School is building a wooden Christmas Tree for the London Chamber of Commerce Mega Business After 5 which is being hosted by the University Student Council and the Student Success Centre at The University of Western on November 25, 2010.  The Christmas Tree will be the focal point for the annual London Business Cares Food Drive.  The Elgin Middlesex Oxford Workforce Planning and Development Board is one of the sponsors for this event.

Thunder Bay   

Workplace Tour Taking several teachers on a tour of a mining sector employer location (to be determined)

Orilla   

Simcoe County District School Board and Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.  We are having a Information Breakfast targeting Construction and Hospitality & Tourism employers.  The focus will be on increasing awareness of SHSM in these two sectors in Orillia.  We want to increase community partnerships and connection of these programs for these two  sectors in order to develop a stronger future labour force.

Grand Erie   

Service-Strength-Support, Males in Human Services on November 25, 2010. This project will bring male students in Grades 7 & 8 together with human services professionals and educators for a day of interactive workshops and presentations, each designed to encourage the students to consider a career in human services.  Students will also experience what the life of an individual in a wheelchair can be like by participating in wheel chair basketball.

Niagara   

Culmination of a lunch hour mentoring program for young girls in Grades 7 & 8 called Teen Esteem: The Lunch Bunch. The program will begin on October 21st  and run at two schools with close to 45 students.

Sault Ste. Marie   

We're partnering with RBC to do a small business tune-up dinner seminar for existing business owners. We're going to touch on a number of topics, co-op and passport being one of them. We're expecting approximately 120 attendees

Walkerton District SS – Guest speaker, Barry Randall, Green Jobs Strategy will speak to at least 2 classes. Environmental Science class-9:15-10:30 and 12:45-2:00.

Peterborough   

I have partnered with the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg to organize an “Adventures in Healthcare”.  80 local high school students will attend this full-day event where they will learn about a variety of careers in Healthcare.  The employer contact is: Elizabeth Vosburgh, Vice President of Human Resources, Northumberland Hills Hospital.
