McGuinty Government Transferring Mental Health Services To Community-Based Agencies In The GTA

Ontario is beginning the process of closing the Thistletown Regional Centre in Etobicoke and transferring the children's mental health services offered there to local mental health agencies in the community.

The provincial facility will wind down over the next two years with children, residents and their families able to access services from community-based agencies where and when they need them.

There will be no cuts to funding for services as a result of this transition.

The Ministry of Children and Youth Services will work closely with those who currently receive services through Thistletown to help them make a smooth transition to community-based programs and services.

This transfer is in line with the McGuinty government's Comprehensive Mental Health and Addictions Strategy, a plan that will help more than 50,000 children, youth and their families find top-quality and timely help in their communities over the next three years.
