Minister of Economic Development and Innovation Brad Duguid issued the following statement commending Honda Canada for beginning production of the new Honda CR-V in Ontario.

"Honda Canada's decision to produce the new, fourth-generation CR-V at the Alliston, Ontario plant further demonstrates the strength of Ontario's auto sector.

Honda has been building cars in Alliston since 1986 and has become an integral part of Ontario's automotive manufacturing sector.  Since starting operations in Alliston, Honda has produced almost 6 million vehicles in Ontario.

The auto sector represents a key part of Ontario's economy, supporting approximately 400,000 jobs. Honda alone employs about 4,700 people at its vehicle assembly plants, engine plant, and head office in the province.

Launching production of one of Honda's top selling Canadian vehicles is also a vote of confidence in the quality and commitment of Ontario's autoworkers and the province's automotive industry as a whole.

With the production of the new CR-V, Honda's Alliston facility is the company's first North American plant able to produce four different vehicles on a single line.  This kind of flexibility demonstrates Honda's commitment to technological advancement and innovation.

Our government thanks Honda and its dedicated employees for their hard work and their contribution to the Ontario economy.

We look forward to continuing to build on our strong partnership with Honda, and with the rest of the automotive industry, as we move forward."
